Tools

Just like an Uber driver needs his own car, a Runner needs his own tools. So if you do not have tools already, you need to acquire them. To begin with, you do not need much. The most essential is:

A patch kit 

Includes: Tube-remover” tool, glue, sandpaper, patches – 10-30 DKK

Multitool for bikes

You need to be able to mount and dismount a bicycle tire. You can of course get individual keys, but a multitool will provide what you need for most tires.

Bicycle pump

You need to make sure you can service both dunlop, auto and racing valves. Most pumps have adaptors for several.

You might need other types of tools as well if you want to do all types of orders. For example to do service you also need bicycle oil, and for a service/wash you need brush and soap etc. Please check the product manuals for exact tools pr. type of service. 

Preparation

The Runners in the network have different qualifications. Some are bike mechanics, and others are “only” bike enthusiasts. You know best yourself what you can, and cannot do. What you have experience with, and what you are trying for the first time. So choose your orders carefully based on your expertise at this time. 

We always encourage the customer to include as much info about the bike as possible in the order. But sometimes they are not by the bike when making the order, so they are not able to include pictures. BikeRunner support always try to gather extra info, if no Runner has taken the order. You are welcome to accept the order, and ask for additional info directly for the customer before you come as well. If the customer does not provide the info you need to prepare, you are welcome to decline the order even if you have already accepted it (just write us an sms).

Here is a small list of effective preparations for the order:

1. Make sure you have all the info you need from the customer to bring the correct tools and spare parts
2. Make sure the customer is always informed about when you will arrive
3. Plan the trip to go past a shop and pick up the spare parts you need, unless you already have them. 

Where to get cheap tubes and tires? 

You are free to buy tubes, tires and other spare parts you need anywhere you want. BikeRunner’s standard prices are based on you buying spare parts in supermarkets and warehouses, and not expensive specialized bike shops. 

You don’t have to buy an actual stash of different spare parts, but the Runners that do many orders, do that. That way, they do not need to go to the store every time. But do a few orders before you buy too much, that way you get a good idea about what sizes are the most common. 

You can also buy cheap online, if it’s possible for the customer to wait a day.  There are many reasons why the price might be higher for the tire you buy – it can have a special size, or better quality is needed for the bike (thicker for electrical bikes, cargo bikes etc.), or the customer is asking for puncture resistant tires. 

When a customer orders a patch, they have pre-approved that you can change the tube if needed, so you do not have to ask the customer about that. If they have ordered a patch or tube, but need a new tire – you should suggest this to them. Most customers trust you and accepts (BikeRunners customers don’t usually know much about bikes themselves).
