The company was founded feb 2019 by Kajsa Ekeroth Stenfeldt. She is not a bike mechanic, but rather a person that wanted to be a customer of BikeRunner. She is just like so many other people in Denmark – biked to and from work everyday, with the kids in a trailer. When it punctured – she didn’t live close to a bike shop, and neither her or her ex-husband knew how to fix it themselves (and that is not for lack of trying,-). 

That is how she came up with the idea of BikeRunner. The bike service industry in Denmark is far behind digitally and convenience wise – and it is operating in the same way it always has. In the auto repair industry there are loads of convenience services like companies that comes and changes your tires, wash your car etc. But in the European country that bikes the most – there is no convenience service for cyclists? That had to change. 

Kajsa started in Copenhagen with a small group of Runners, and a very simple website she built herself. When somebody made an order, she got an email, and called the Runner on the phone. But BikeRunner quickly grew. It turns out there were a lot more cyclists like her, that had been longing for this service. 

Kajsa has a background within Sales, Marketing, Market research, UX and Usability research – and a big flair for IT. But she couldn’t quite build the whole automated platform herself – and calling Runners on the phone, and sending manual invoices to customers – quickly became a full time job. 

Enter Theis Borg, Jakob Maaløe and Jesper Nicklasen – 3 very skilled developers and coders that instantly loved the idea. These 3 have successfully launched several apps before, and they became part of the team.

BikeRunner slowly became more and more digital and automated – and the process is still ongoing. BikeRunner was able to attract the very skillful investor Birger Baylund. Birger have a long track record of building and internationalising large companies. Now BikeRunner is on track of large growth and development together with all our around 200 skillful and serviceminded Runners all over Denmark covering the 20 largest cities. In 2024, BikeRunner aquired the Dutch company FlatTire, and then also opened it’s operations in Amsterdam. We really hope you want to be part of the ride!
